Nikon announced the D3X, an FX-format digital SLR featuring extreme 24.5-megapixel resolution and superb low-noise capabilities, which provides professional photographers with commercial-quality image performance in a familiar and extraordinarily versatile D-SLR form factor. In conjunction with the groundbreaking Nikon FX-format D3, the D3X tops off a collection of flagship level, rugged, professional caliber digital single lens reflex cameras engineered to excel in all types of professional photographic disciplines from photojournalism and sideline sports, to commercial in-studio applications.

The foundation of the enhanced performance of the D3X is its FX-format, 24.5-megapixel (6048 x 4032) CMOS sensor providing commercial, high fashion, fine art and landscape photographers with the extreme resolution, dynamic range, color depth, detail and sharpness that clients demand. Whether creating catalogs, magazine covers, billboards or gallery prints, the large 5.49-micron pixel size and high signal to noise ratio produces vibrant images with breathtaking image fidelity while reducing lost highlights and shadows, and ensuring smoother tone reproduction with minimized noise. With full resolution shooting speeds of up to five frames-per-second (fps), and 14-bit files, that when processed are approximately 138 MB, the D3X offers today’s photographic artists an extreme level of performance and versatility ready for demanding assignments in the studio or on location.

“In 2007, the 12.1-megapixel FX-format D3 delivered groundbreaking digital SLR image quality, coupled with incomparable high ISO, low noise performance and high-speed handling. In doing so, the D3 broke photographic barriers, enabling photographers to work in ways never before possible,” said Edward Fasano, general manager for Marketing, SLR Systems Products at Nikon Inc. “Now, the new 24.5-megapixel FX-format D3X D-SLR provides the extreme resolution and high dynamic range capabilities needed to meet the extraordinary needs of photographic disciplines such as high fashion, commercial advertising and fine art. The D3X delivers this remarkable capability while fitting seamlessly within the Nikon system, taking full advantage of Nikon’s world-renowned collection of NIKKOR lenses and Speedlights.”

Image Quality Takes Center Stage
To re-emphasize the importance of image quality above all else, the D3X delivers an incredible level of digital SLR performance to provide photographers with extremely high resolution, exceptional dynamic range, phenomenal total gradation and outstanding color reproduction. Image files can be recorded as TIFF, JPEG or NEF (RAW) formats in either 12- or 14-bit compressed or uncompressed formats, and recorded to UDMA compatible CompactFlash™ cards for optimum speed. Photographers can save image files directly to the dual card slots as overflow, backup, or as separate file formats to different cards. Building on the D3X’s flexibility, users have the creative option to shoot in the 5:4 crop mode with 20.4-megapixel resolution, the ideal format for creating 8 x 10-inch portraits. While using DX-format lenses, faster continuous shooting of up to seven frames per second can be achieved at a resolution of 10.5 megapixels.

The exceptionally low noise of the D3X is essential to any professional commercial application, and it provides photographers with an ISO range of 100 to 1600, expandable to 50 (Lo-1) and 6400 (Hi-2). The ultra smooth tones and lack of grain at ISO 1600 as well as at low sensitivity settings result in smooth, natural skin tones and exacting detail that, before the D3X, required larger and far costlier studio-bound camera systems.

Advanced Technologies, Meticulously Executed
In a commercial setting or on location, imaging professionals need high performance in both speed and processing. The Nikon D3X can shoot at up to five fps at full resolution or up to seven fps in DX crop mode, allowing photographers to catch the split-second difference in a model’s expression or capture all of the action in a sequence. Just like the D3, the D3X achieves a start-up time of a mere 0.12 seconds and a shutter release time lag of 0.04 seconds.

The D3X’s speed, as well as high levels of performance, leverages Nikon core technologies including a newly enhanced EXPEED™ Image Processing System, specially designed for the D3X to provide superior image quality, faster processing speeds and lower power consumption. This advanced system is able to achieve extremely precise color reproduction for a broad spectrum of hues, in addition to vivid saturation and smooth gradation. What’s more, Nikon’s advanced noise processing function is engineered to minimize noise at all sensitivities and operate seamlessly without interfering with other image color parameters.

The D3X also features Nikon’s exclusive Scene Recognition System, which continuously analyzes information from the 1,005-pixel RGB light sensor, to further refine auto exposure, auto white balance and autofocus calculations. This results in flattering portraits and awe-inspiring landscapes that portray accurate color and fine details. Nikon’s exclusive 3D Color Matrix Metering II helps ensure accurate exposures, even in the most challenging lighting conditions. Instantly evaluating each scene before capture, input data from the system’s sensor is automatically referenced against an internal database of more than 30,000 images derived from actual photographs to calculate correct exposure values. Active D-Lighting, used in combination with 3D Matrix Metering II, helps to determines proper exposure, and creates realistic contrast while compensating for lost shadows and highlights. Prior to shooting, users can choose from Extra High, High, Normal, Low or Off settings, as well as an Auto mode.

Additionally, the D3X features Nikon’s exclusive Multi-CAM 3500FX focus module, with 51 AF points, 15 cross type sensors and 36 horizontal sensors that easily track and lock onto moving subjects, delivering the same fast and accurate AF performance that helped make the D3 immediately successful. Users can select any of the AF points, making it easy to consistently attain accurate focus right on a subject’s eyes, frame after frame. Additionally, three AF-area modes – Single point, Dynamic-area AF and Auto-area AF – are available to maximize the use of the 51 focus points by selecting the most suitable one to match subject conditions. AF is also available in one of two Live View modes optimized for the studio, including a phase detection handheld mode and a tripod mode. This feature allows the user to zoom in up to 27x on the LCD screen to ensure critical focus. While in Live View, the graphic indication of a virtual horizon is also available, making it easier than ever to confirm camera orientation.

To further ensure each photographer’s ability to balance their personal style, Nikon’s Picture Control System enables users to adjust their images to pre-set parameters such as Standard, Neutral, Vivid and Monochrome that apply tweaks to image sharpening, tone compensation, brightness, overall tone and saturation. Photographers have creative control over these image parameters with the use of up to nine available customizable presets.

Synchronizing Both Form and Function
Engineered for real-world functionality, the D3X retains a rugged shell with moisture, dust and shock resistance that has become a hallmark of flagship Nikon D-SLRs, while preserving the usability and ergonomics that allow the camera to remain an extension of the photographer’s vision. Attention to detail goes so far as to include a self-diagnostic shutter system that is tested to exceed 300,000 cycles for maximum durability and longevity. The camera’s body also maintains the resilient magnesium alloy construction and form factor of the D3, promoting consistent Nikon system synergy.

A bright and accurate viewfinder offers 100 percent coverage with 0.7x magnification. The body also houses Nikon’s acclaimed 3.0-inch super density LCD screen, now relied upon by so many photographers. The high-resolution 920,000-dot screen is viewable at wide angles up to 170 degrees, and will allow photographers to quickly zoom in to confirm critical focus. Users can also output the video signal to an external display via HDMI to allow client viewing. Thanks to incredibly efficient internal circuitry, the D3X can capture up to 4400* shots per single charge of the camera’s Lithium ion battery.

System Strength Withstands the Test of Time
The D3X is fully compatible with Nikon’s Creative Lighting System (CLS) to give photographers a mobile lighting solution that is easy to manage. To further enhance mobility, the D3X is compatible with Nikon’s GP-1 GPS receiver to gather information such as latitude, longitude, altitude and date of shooting. Photographers can easily shoot tethered via USB, or use the WT-4a wireless transmitter to send images wirelessly when speed and mobility are essential. D3X users will also enjoy the system strength of more than 50 genuine NIKKOR lenses that provide outstanding sharpness and high resolution across a broad range of focal lengths.

The Nikon D3X will be available at Nikon Authorized Professional Dealers starting December 2008, and will be available for an estimated selling price of $7999.95.**

VentMount allows users to securely position their iPhone or touch onto their car’s dashboard for easy access while on the road. Both the VentMount for iPhone and the VentMount for touch are available from dlo.com and select retailers for $24.99.

The VentMount’s unique car-mounting system is a must-have product for all iPhone users. It features a secure mounting device that is hooked onto the car’s air vents. A shell with integrated belt clip easily and securely latches onto the mounting device for convenient quick-glance viewing of the iPhone (both horizontally or vertically).
The VentMount is particularly useful for Cover Flow or following driving directions while on the road. In addition, when used in conjunction with a Bluetooth headset, users can easily see who’s calling and take phone calls without removing the phone. While the iPhone or touch is mounted, users will find easy access to the side controls as well as the dock connector - enabling them to charge the device or connect it to the car’s Aux-In while it remains secure in the VentMount.

“The VentMount is an essential car accessory for every iPhone user,” said Andrew Green, vice president of marketing for DLO. “Whether quickly checking a map or taking a call, the iPhone is always secure and perfectly situated for easy, at-a-glance viewing. Once you’ve used the VentMount, it’s hard to live without it.”

The VentMount features an integrated belt clip/desktop stand that enables the touch or iPhone to go from car to hip to desk with ease. The VentMount’s locking desktop stand lets users easily enjoy hands-free video viewing on any flat surface.

Digital Lifestyle OutfittersTM (DLO) unveiled its Portable Speakers for iPhone. Compact yet powerful, the speaker system and iPhone stand enables users to enjoy their music and videos in stereo sound without any threat of TDMA interference. The speakers are available immediately from www.dlo.com for $49.99 and are compatible with all recently announced iPod models, as well as the iPhone.

Connected via the phone’s headphone jack, DLO’s Portable Speakers for iPhone feature an extra-wide sound stage and bass vents that deliver powerful sound from the two highly compact speakers. The rotating and removable stand holds the iPhone upright or horizontally for an ideal portable movie-viewing experience. And, with DLO’s speaker system, users won’t have to disconnect their phones to take a call. If a call comes in while the iPhone is connected, the Portable Speakers simply turn into a speaker for the phone. Users can take and place calls as needed - without any disruption.

Small enough for home, office or dormitory desktops, the speakers also feature a unique compact design that makes them ideal for travel. Each speaker snaps neatly into the base to create a “ball” approximately 6 inches in diameter. The base features a recessed area for keeping cords securely wrapped and out of the way when not in use.
Powered by either AAA batteries or the included AC adapter, the DLO Portable Speakers for iPhone are versatile enough to be used at home or on the go. Created with the iPhone in mind, the portable speakers will also work with any audio device that has a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Early next month JVC will unveil a new LED billboard that will be the first true 720p high definition display in New York’s Times Square.

The focal point of the new billboard will be a high definition LED screen, but it will also feature a pair of LED tickers with animated programming synchronized among all three LED displays, plus large “JVC” letters illuminated by neon. The new LED billboard will be among the most impactful in Times Square thanks to the combination of its advanced technology and its location – just one story above ground level at Broadway and 43rd. Its close proximity to street level will ensure that Times Square visitors will fully appreciate the display’s crisp, high definition images, the brightness of its 1.2 million LEDs and the brilliance of the nine-foot red neon JVC letters atop the display. JVC, which has maintained a continuous presence in Times Square since 1979, will activate the new billboard on December 2nd.

With a resolution of 1280 x 720, a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio and 60 frames per second animated content, the new JVC billboard will be the first in Times Square that meets all the criteria for a true 720p high definition display. To further ensure a crisp image, pixel pitch – or the space between pixels of the same color – is a mere 8mm.

The main high definition LED screen will measure 19’ x 34’, and features a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio. A new 71-foot LED ticker will run beneath the display and curve below the base of the JVC globe, which is encircled by its own 45-foot LED ticker. The JVC globe itself, a widely recognized fixture at the northeast corner of Broadway and 43rd Street since 1999, will be refurbished using high density fluorescent paint.

“Times Square might have changed a bit in the 30 years that JVC has had a presence there, but it continues to live up to its nickname as the ‘crossroads of the world’,” said Karl Bearnarth, senior vice president, marketing, JVC Company of America. “For many of the millions of visitors that pass through the area every year, the bright lights and billboards are a main attraction. We think our new high definition billboard will create plenty of excitement thanks to its stunning resolution and our creative use of all three LED display areas.”

The new JVC billboard, called a “spectacular” in industry parlance, was created for JVC by Clear Channel Spectacolor, with the LED displays provided by D3 LED.

“In rebranding their long standing Times Square display, JVC employed the same qualities that have made it a leader in the development of sophisticated audio and video products – innovation, quality and a commitment to the consumer experience,” said Harry Coghlan, president and general manager, Clear Channel Spectacolor. “The JVC display is a true ‘spectacular’ in that it delivers grand brand heraldry, an iconic centerpiece with the JVC Globe, state-of-the-art technology, and engaging viewer content. In terms of Times Square displays the JVC display is ‘The Perfect Experience’.”

JVC will showcase seasonal, promotional and product-related original content on the new billboard. To kick off the introduction, JVC will begin showcasing content related to an upcoming promotion, along with promotional messages for its camcorders, high definition displays and car entertainment products.

New Satellite Blends Elegant Design and Technology Innovations

IRVINE, Calif., (April 8, 2008)—Toshiba’s Digital Products Division (DPD), a division of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., today announced it’s now shipping the new Satellite® A300 series laptop computers, offering consumers enhanced performance and dependability, in a sleek eye-catching form factor.

The Satellite A300 series sports a new design and Toshiba’s unique Fusion™ finish with Horizon pattern. The Fusion finish with Horizon pattern is a distinctive blend of appearance and texture that’s bonded directly to the chassis, which results in an elegant and beautifully styled laptop.

“Users today expect their laptops to be a powerful tool for entertainment, communication, as well as a symbol of personal identity,” said Jeff Barney, vice president of marketing, Digital Products Division, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. “By integrating Toshiba’s Fusion finish in the Satellite A300, consumers will receive a gorgeous laptop that’s also a powerful performer.”

The Satellite A300 series sports a high-definition, 15.4-inch diagonal widescreen display, which allows users to view a wide variety of high-definition content including streaming online HD television programs and HD video podcasts. With new LED-illuminated “Feather-Touch” multimedia command keys the mere touch of a finger can control the audio and video playback of a user’s favorite movies and music.

With a starting price of $949.991, Toshiba’s Satellite A300 series offers a variety of useful and practical features such as a flush mounted touchpad, which rests seamlessly across the center of the palm rest with a white LED light across the top to enhance the detail-oriented finish, while providing a slight texture change so users can easily find the touchpad without looking away from the screen.

With innovative Sleep-and-Charge USB ports incorporated within the Satellite A300 series, users can charge their popular mobile devices such as MP3 players, mobile phones and PDAs, whether the laptop is powered-on or off. Another convenient feature found on the Satellite A300 series is the Webcam with Toshiba’s facial recognition software, which offers users a unique and fun way to gain access to the laptop based on a recorded digital image of the user’s face.

Providing users with a system for fun and leisure, the Satellite A300 series is loaded with a healthy assortment of enhanced audio features. The Satellite A300 comes standard with two built-in Harman Kardon® stereo speakers with Dolby® Sound Room™ Technology for a clean and crisp audio experience as well as an S/P DIF output port for 5.1 stereo surround sound.

Available in select models, users can expand the functionality of the laptop through REGZA LINK™ (HDMI-CEC) technology. Built upon the strength of HDMI, which enables the laptop to be connected to external displays, REGZA LINK empowers users with instant device configuration and the ability to control these linked HDMI-CEC enable devices, such as Toshiba’s REGZA™ HDTVs with a single remote.

The Satellite A300 series is available in a variety of configurations, including Window Vista 64-bit, and the choice between the latest Intel® Centrino® Duo processor2 technology or AMD’s leading-edge AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology processor2. Together these configurations provide users with an abundance of power to enjoy all that modern computing stands for in terms of Internet, multimedia entertainment and productivity. Additionally, select models of the Satellite A300 come with ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3650 with 512MB DDR discrete graphics3 memory, for delivering exceptional graphics and image rendering.

The Satellite A300 series is available from a variety of major consumer electronics and computer stores nationwide or directly from Toshiba at www.toshibadirect.com.
Toshiba Offers Five Free HD DVD’s with Purchase of Toshiba HD DVD Notebook Computer

IRVINE, Calif., (Oct. 1, 2007) — Toshiba’s Digital Products Division (DPD), a division of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., today announced two new additions to its attractively-priced, high-definition Qosmio® F45 laptop computer series. The notebooks will be on display during this year’s DigitalLife tradeshow in New York at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Booth (#621) this week.

For a limited time, with the purchase of select HD DVD enabled Toshiba Qosmio F45 notebooks, consumers will qualify to receive five HD DVD titles for free, from a selection of 15 popular titles, via a mail-in offer. Complete offer details are available at http://www.toshibadirect.com/hddvdpc, and will extend until February 28, 2008.

The new Qosmio F45 is designed to give movie enthusiasts a more cost-effective solution to enjoy the high-quality experience that the Qosmio brand represents. Incorporating leading-edge technologies, such as high-definition displays, HD DVD drives, HDMI ports, Dolby® Home Theater™ technology as well as Harman Kardon® Bass Reflex stereo speakers with a built-in subwoofer, the notebook has a starting price of $1,2991. Toshiba’s new configurations include the Qosmio F45-AV423 and Qosmio F45-AV425.

Featuring a dazzling high-definition 15.4-inch diagonal widescreen TruBrite® display, the Qosmio F45 can deliver today’s hottest new HD DVD releases in stunning clarity. Also, users can connect the Qosmio F45 notebook’s HDMI port to an HDTV to expand the functionality of their home entertainment center. Once connected to an HDTV, the Qosmio F45 notebook series can output a high-definition resolution up to 1080i for stunning clarity and pulse-pounding sound, making it the perfect entertainment hub for family rooms or home theaters.

For optimum digital immersion and clarity, HD DVD offers a picture with up to six-times the resolution of the standard DVD for a true cinematic experience. The Qosmio’s HD DVD drive is backwards-compatible2 with traditional DVD formats and will allow users to continue playing compatible discs from their existing DVD collections.

A key benefit for movie enthusiasts using a notebook computer as a conduit for HD DVD playback is the next-generation 802.11n3 wireless4 internet connection which makes it possible to quickly and easily access bonus content without the burden of being tied down to an Ethernet connection, providing movie buffs with all the latest news and features of their favorite movies on the go. New releases, such as Universal’s “Heroes,” and Warner Bros.’ “300” provide enhanced high-definition content that is only available through the Internet. Meanwhile, the list of HD DVD titles has swelled to nearly 300 titles, including Universal’s “Smokin’ Aces,” DreamWorks Pictures’ “Dream Girls” and Warner Bros.’ “The Matrix Trilogy” and “Letters from Iwo Jima.”

The two new configurations are available at www.toshibadirect.com, as well as a variety of major consumer electronics and computer stores nationwide. These models are available with the following specifications and price options:

Features 2,300 ANSI Lumens, Windows Vista®, Wireless Network Capabilities and ‘PC-Free’ Presentations for $1,599

IRVINE, Calif. (Sept. 11, 2007) — Toshiba’s Digital Products Division, a division of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., today announced the company’s latest premier DLP® BrilliantColor™ mobile projector with “extreme short projection” capabilities for greater luminance and larger images from a shorter distance. The TDP-EX20U projector features Windows Vista® networking capabilities, integrated wireless1 functionality for quick set-up and sequential presentations, as well as remote network management and extensive multimedia connectivity.

The compact and stylish TDP-EX20U projector is designed for education, mobile professionals, corporate customers, small-to-medium sized businesses, consumers and Pro AV installation, all for an ESUP of $1,5992.

To enhance the learning experience at all levels of classroom instruction, business use and digital home entertainment, the portable TDP-EX20U projector’s “extreme short projection” capabilities produce a remarkable 60-inch image from just three feet away. “Extreme short projection” produces more luminance or brightness because the image has a shorter distance to travel, reducing the amount of ambient light that can harm image quality.

“There isn’t a better short throw projector on the market at this low price,” said Sam Malik, director of projector sales and marketing, Toshiba Digital Products Division. “Other projectors with short throw capabilities cannot match the TDP-EX20U’s price, value-added features and portability.”

The TDP-EX20U projector can be ceiling mounted and unlike conventional projectors, the “extreme short projection” technology eliminates eye glare and the problem of screen shadowing when the presenter is close to the screen. When used as a portable projector, the “extreme short projection” technology enables users to present at various table heights such as at the end of a desk, conference table or even a low coffee table.

The TDP-EX20U projects fine text and images with an impressive 2,300 ANSI lumens and a rich, vibrant DLP® BrilliantColor™ display. The DLP® BrilliantColor™ technology utilizes up to six separate colors: red, blue, green, cyan, yellow and magenta for a wider variety of accurate, vibrant colors that won’t fade over time. BrilliantColor™ technology enables a 50 percent increase in the brightness of colors. The projector also features an XGA (1024×768) native resolution, razor sharp contrast ratio of 2000:1 and offers on-the-go professionals the option to deliver “PC-free” presentations with a USB thumb drive by simply storing the presentation in JPEG format and connecting to the USB port.

Users can also expect seamless presentations with remote network management from this projector. The TDP-EX20U can be networked and controlled remotely via a wired LAN connection, which is password protected for increased security. Due to the TDP-EX20U projector’s Windows Vista® network capabilities, presenters can wirelessly transfer JPEG files from a notebook with ease, for slide show presentations or images embedded in documents. The built-in IEEE 802.11g wireless1 functionality of the TDP-EX20U delivers fast set-up time and enables presenters to easily connect their wireless notebooks to the projector from anywhere in the room, and deliver sequential presentations without the need for cables. The Toshiba TDP-EX20U projector’s network capability also allows IT administrators to remotely control the projector over a network and receive e-mail notification via SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) for issues related to temperature, fan and lamp status.

HDTV/DTV compatible, Toshiba’s TDP-EX20U integrates data, video and audio features necessary for high-end multimedia presentations. The projector comes packaged in a sleek, high-tech casing with multiple computer inputs (two RGB 15-pin), two video inputs for composite and S-video, two components (shared with computer inputs), one-watt stereo speaker, type A USB port and both wired and wireless connectivity options. Other features unique to the TDP-EX20U include variable audio out, digital zoom and auto set, which allows users to automatically synchronize the settings between their PCs and the projector.

The Toshiba TDP-EX20U projector also includes the following leading edge features:

Toshiba’s unique Natural Color Enhancer4 color correction circuitry, delivering exceptionally sharp and vivid images that more closely match original presentation colors;

“Blackboard” function with wall color adjustment. Simply select a wall color, such as green, black, brown, blue or beige, for a clearer display on non-screen surfaces;

One-touch auto setup on a fully-loaded presentation remote to ensure worry-free, professional presentations even in the most unforgiving environments;

Digital zoom function on the remote control allows the presenter to zoom in on a specific image or presentation element, such as spreadsheet numbers or other important details;

Password protection and key-lock function to help prevent unauthorized use;

Instant power shut down capability that enables the projector to power off instantly once disconnected from the power outlet with no cool-down time required;

Automatic digital keystone correction system, allowing presenters to adjust errors quickly and easily for a proportional, squared display;

Whisper-quiet operation of only 28 decibels (dB) (in low mode) – quieter than a soft conversation;

In addition, the projector features convenient lamp access on the top panel for easy lamp replacement, even when the projector is ceiling mounted.

The Toshiba TDP-EX20U is currently available through Toshiba’s authorized distributors, VARs, mail-order outlets and www.toshibadirect.com.
